A few words about

Proclamation, City of Norwich

Raising Awareness

For April Child Abuse Prevention Month, 2022 the City of Norwich Mayor, Brian Doliver signed a Proclamation signifying that April of 2022 is April Child Prevention Month in the City of Norwich, NY. The Proclamation will acknowledge the need to draw attention to a very important cause in our community such as child abuse and sponsor several events, such as the Pinwheels for Prevention, “Shine Blue for Hope” campaign and “Hope for Healing” 5K Run/Walk as a way to raise awareness on child abuse within our region.

In 2021, Chenango Child Advocacy Center interviewed 149 children, provided 278 counseling sessions, supported 124 caregivers and helped 109 youth engaging in high risks behaviors. Ironically these numbers reflect services provided during a pandemic in where our community was shut down. We are seeing a significant increase in cases as we come out of the pandemic. This issue will not resolve itself, but as a community we can work together to make a difference for the needs of children impacted by a crime in our community. I am continually reminded through this famous quote:

“The Community is Essential, for Alone our Vision is too Narrow to see all that Must be Seen. Together, our Vision Widens,
and Strength is Renewed.” Mark Morrison-Reed

We can only make a difference if we work together as a community -The Chenango Child Advocacy Center is thrilled to be working with the City of Norwich to raise awareness on this important topic of child abuse in our community!
